Pretty good, could be a little better.

Hi. If you’re like me, you’re looking to buy a substitute for your beloved “milk” you’ve been drinking that has been discontinued; Bored Cow. I know. It makes me sad too. They went bankrupt or whatever. That stinks because I LOVED Bored Cow. I would buy it up by the dozen at Wal Mart or Target. I only recently learned they aren’t making it anymore. It was so good.I am not against regular milk. I know some about the dairy industry and have been avoiding regular milk for a while now. But I HATE all those other “milks” out there. Almond, soy, whatever- they’re all like water.I had to do a little digging online here, probably like you did, to find that yes, there are other milks out there that are using the same method of Bored Milk and using the same whey that the company called Perfect Day makes. This is one of them. It’s close. Not great, but close. It deserves 5 stars just for existing and for being able to buy it online. Here’s what you need to know about Strive’s Milk;1) Taste. OK This was a little jarring. It has a slight vanilla-y grass-y flavor to it? It’s not too bad, but Bored Cow had ZERO flavor which also took getting used to originally. So, to go to this from that, it’s a little odd. In cereal it’s good. On its own it’s a little weird. But I think I can accept it especially since I had to buy SIX big bottles on here as you are about to.2) It’s available. It has been so difficult for me to find and buy a milk product online that uses the Perfect Day whey. And here’s why that’s important:3) FUNCTION. This stuff, and Bored Cow, WORK like actual milk. They have a milk consistency, they aren’t watery, you can froth them and they cook in recipes MUCH BETTER than other faux-milks.-Also, comparing this to Bored Cow;Strive has more calories.Strive has more fat.Strive has more carbs/sugar.Vitamins are about the same. Most of the ingredients are quite similar. That taste, though. I checked the ingredients to see if they added some weird vanilla in there and they don’t. So I don’t know what’s causing that taste. Maybe because it’s sweeter?-So overall, yes, I like it. I like that it’s similar, it tastes ok, and I’m not supporting the horrific dairy industry. If you miss Bored Cow, you will like this stuff, just not as much.

    Strive FreeMilk Chocolate is delicious!

How delicious is it? Well, I polished off the inaugural 48 oz bottle in under 4 hours flat, it was that good. And later on I had an 8 oz cup nightcap. 12 oz? Yum!FreeMilk tastes like dairy milk because it is real whey milk. It’s slightly more watery but not watered down, nowhere near what you get in many non-dairy beverages, which are basically filtered water and a nut, cereal or whatever for some flavor.FreeMilk is a genuine precision fermentation confection that produces whey protein from microorganisms like yeast. It’s the real McCoy, biochemically. But with more oomph: 25% more protein, 50% less sugar and a whopping 97% less emissions than regular chocolate milk. And made with real Dutch cocoa. No lactose, no cholesterol, no antibiotics, no artificial hormones. No cows. No animal cruelty. No brutally orphaned calves. What are you doing sitting there like a zombie? Get your order on Amazon right now.Next up for the family owned and operated company: drinkable FreeYogurt. Yum!Note: Strive FreeMilk Chocolate uses a small amount of stevia, a zero-calorie natural sweetener, to decrease the amount of cane sugar in the product. Stevia is usually well tolerated by most folks. But for some it can cause gastrointestinal effects that can be quite unpleasant. For more info read Does Stevia Cause Gas? (among other things) at gutadvisor dot com. Very informative site.

    Cow Milk Dupe

Great cow milk dupe. Finding a vegetarian milk alternative has been tough because I’m allergic to nuts and soy.I went to Whole Foods the day NotMilk came out. It was almost impossible to tell the difference between cow milk and NotMilk.NotMilk was purchased and became a shelf stable tetra pack. Even better. However, it’s been out of stock for almost a year. I had to find another option.I’ve since purchased different brands of pea protein based cow milk alternatives. Sproud and similar brands. They were okay. I wouldn’t drink a glass of it but it was good enough for cereal, coffee, and baking.I was about to reorder Sproud when I saw this product recommendation. The reviews were mixed. Some people hated it and others said it was great. One review specifically said it was like NotMilk. I figured it was ~$6 cheaper than Sproud, I would risk trying it out.Product arrived and was well-packaged. No leaks, etc.I immediately shook one of the tetra packs and tried it out.I thought the pack might have gone bad because the initial smell was weird in a bad way. However, I persevered through the initial strange smell and added it to my morning mug of hot black tea. It looked like milk, stirred like milk, foamed from shaking like milk, and didn’t smell weird anymore.Taste is fantastic!I’ve since used it in my heated milk frother for my husband’s coffee lattes. Comes out with perfect texture, froth, and foam. My husband thought I had gone back to cow milk.I’ve made scrambled eggs with it, used it baking desserts, macaroni & cheese, etc. I’ve even dunked Oreos in it and drank the rest of the glass afterwards.I’ve never experienced the weird smell again since that initial pack. It’s the closest to NotMilk that I’ve found. I don’t think most folks would be able to tell the difference.Strive FreeMilk foams and froths better, IMO. The price point is much better than the competition as well ($23.99 in 2/2025).If you liked NotMilk, don’t like nut or soy based alternatives, or miss cow milk, FreeMilk is the best I’ve found that’s available.

Not eligible for return – buyer beware! Smells weird, tastes worse than it smells

I had high hopes for cow milk not made from cows. There’s still a lot of work for food scientists to go before this is ready for prime time. I smelled it and it smells a little bit like yogurt. I decided to make chai tea hoping it would come out. It did not. I mean it cooks like milk even forms a fat layer on top but all the while had a sour yogurt-like smell and taste-wise it is awful. Like I said, it smells like yogurt through and through but not in an appetizing way. Unfortunately, not eligible for return, so buyer BEWARE Either have to stomach it or I just wasted 20-something bucks. I bought a whole case – stupid me. I should have just bought a single carton to try before plunking down. I much prefer the taste of other alternative “milk” products so I’ll be going that route in the future and check back in a few years.

This is my go-to for plant based milk

I’ve tried almost every type of plant based milk out there – soy, oat, coconut, almond, cashew, hemp, flax, pea protein, and various concoctions which combined a number of these, none of which I found to be an acceptable substitute for adding to coffee. The closest was an extra creamy oat milk, but it still left something to be desired. I primarily became a vegetarian for health reasons (after almost dying from coronary artery disease), and having concerns about factory farming and animal welfare. Since I am also lactose intolerant I was always on the lookout for plant-based milks that would impart richness to coffee and have the ability to froth up for a latte. That’s when I discovered Strive FREEMILK. It is the best tasting dairy milk alternative that I have found. It even tastes great on it’s own. The fact that it is made using microflora to produce animal-free whey, even though bovine cells were initially used, is not troubling for me. On the downside, which is why I only gave it 4 stars, is that sometimes there are little white flecks in it when you pour it into hot coffee. This happens with a lot of plant-based milks. It’s strictly an appearance issue, and it can be minimized by whipping it up with a frother. The other downside is the cost and availability. It is a bit expensive, but I will continue to buy it as I only use it for coffee and it lasts me a while. When I order it from Amazon I sometime have to wait for weeks for it to be delivered, even when I had Amazon Prime. I contacted the company and ask if they were having supply issues and they said no – that the delay must be on Amazon’s end. In closing I’m just going to reiterate that this is the best plant-based milk I’ve had and I recommend it highly.

    A OK

We consume plant-based milk to reduce animal-based milk consumption, which is delicious, but its industry contributes to gas emissions greatly. We like to try new products so we bought this one. It is OK. Perfect to mix with coffee because it is very creamy. However is very plain, even for us who are accustomed to unsweetened plant-based milks, so we were surprised to notice that it has more sugar and carbohydrates than unsweetened soy milk. So we are going back to soy milk which is healthier and cheaper. But if you are only looking for milk for your coffee, you may want to try this product. It is good.

    Never out of milk again!

Very economical way to keep extra milk available. When you need more, put a quart in the fridge from the pantry, keep the others without refrigeration until need arises. The shelf life in the pantry is not indefinite, but very much longer than the life of refrigerated milk. I can see folks with lots of young milk drinkers, cereal eaters etc, stocking up on this handy way of keeping milk on hand until need arises. The taste is good. I am a regular milk drinker now in my late 80s, and the taste is no drifferent than refrigerated milk bought from the cooler at the grocers. No question it can also be used for cooking. So… i plan to keep an order of milk in the pantry all the time. It is really convenient to shop this way for milk as the summer heat does a number on my groceries on the drive home from the weekly shopping trip. I wish it was this easy dealing with ice cream in hot weather.

    5 STARS!

I have been using Strive with my morning granola and really enjoy the taste and how easy it is on my stomach. The extra protein is definitely a bonus! Love it!!

Great on nutrition and froths well, tastes like soy/almond milk.

For a complete whey protein, it’s great. Hopefully they can reduce the amount of oils they use. But overall, I find it palatable and perfect for vegetarians and or vegans as it is a complete protein and is fortified. Not perfect but hopefully this company can continue to build on this version and inspire other food companies to venture out. I still haven’t tried Bored Cow, another USA available cow free dairy milk alternative. The dairy industry will never change their cruel practices so it is up to us to support these alternatives.
