    Finally!

I can’t tell you how many times I have switched my 8 week old son’s formula. We have tried Enfamil Newborn, AR, and Gentlease, we have tried Baby’s Only Soy, Dairy and Similac Alimentum. Every single one caused my baby some kind of problem, from spitting up to constipation, gas, and pain while eating. At 5 weeks he was diagnosed with silent reflux and put on rantidine three times a day. I did not want to give him prescription drugs at 5 weeks old, but I thought I would try it. He was in so much pain, it was awful to watch. It was also affecting his sleep because he could not lie flat without having pain.To make a long story short, the rantidine did nothing to help his reflux. After two weeks I decided to call it quits. My pediatrician gave me samples of Alimentum because we suspected a milk protein allergy. The Allimentum did no good and gave him diarrhea. I switched back to Gentlease, even though it produced horrible green swamp poops and did not really help anything either. I almost gave up looking for a good formula, assuming that they were all horrible. We tried everything I could find. First we bought a probiotic and started that once a day. It seemed to help aid digestion but did nothing to ease his pain. Then we switched from Avent to Dr. Brown’s bottles, which cut down on the gas and helped a little bit more. Finally, I decided to give this formula a try. I was in the middle of a feeding of Gentlease, and he was crying in pain. Just for kicks I popped open a can of the Baby’s Only Lactorelief and BAM! No pain! He literally stopped crying right in the middle of the feed, gulped down 4 ounces, and crashed.I did not realize until visiting the NaturesOne website that they do compare this formula to Enfamil Gentlease and Similac Sensitive. It’s the only sensitive organic formula on the market. The ingredients are similar to that of the other brands but it does not contain corn or hexane-derived DHA/ARA. It smells and tastes a ton better.I don’t think my son is lactose intolerant. Or maybe he is. There are also theories out there that some babies are sensitive to corn or DHA. Whatever the problem, I don’t care. After two days of eating this formula, the only time we are experiencing any discomfort is when he has to burp. Even that seems very minimal and the burps are easier to coax out. I always wondered how long I should wait to see results from a new formula. A day? A week? A month? In this case, I have seen improvement from the very first feed. I won’t say it’s perfect yet, but he may have inflammation from the previous formula. I will update.I know how frustrating it can be to figure out what the problem is if your baby is having reflux issues. It’s trial by fire until you nail something down. If you are feeding Enfamil Gentlease or Similac Sensitive and would prefer an organic alternative, this is for you. Please do not let these people who insist that the arsenic will hurt your baby scare you. Do some research on hexane and DHA and decide which is worse, potential small amounts of arsenic (which is naturally occurring from volcanic activities in the areas of the world where rice is grown) or the hexane derivation process. This is the ONLY formula on the market which does not contain DHA/ARA.Yes, it’s expensive. But so are Alimentum and Nutramigen, and if your baby needs it, it’s worth its weight in gold. I’m so glad it’s working for us, and I could not be happier with it.Update 9-14-12Still working great! After two weeks, it’s almost like my son never had reflux at all! We still get the occasional feed where he has an episode, but I think that might be stomach related and since he can’t tell me, I’ll never know. It seems to help to burp thoroughly when he gets that way.Update 10-3-12Over a month later we are still loving this formula. I had an extra can of the Dairy formula lying around and wanted to use it up. It instantly gave my son horrible gas and an upset stomach. I think he really does have a lactose sensitivity. I’m so glad Nature’s One makes this organic lactose-free formula. My son is growing and thriving on it, with no reflux issues to speak of.Update 1-23-13We were able to transition to the slightly cheaper Baby’s Only Soy formula at 6 months without a hitch. Tried the dairy formula again to no avail. I really think it’s the lactose. But the soy is working great and we are saving money while still using the same great company.Update 1-7-15My son is no longer a baby, but I thought I would do a finalUpdate because there has been interest. My son tested positive for a milk allergy after we introduced solids at 8 months. It was barely detected. We did a combination of almond milk and hemp milk at a year, and he continued to do fine with cheese and yogurt. Now he is 2.5, and while he dislikes cows milk he is free of any dietary restrictions. Despite the milk allergy, he tolerated this formula just fine until he bottle weaned at a year. We did end up switching back to this after trying the soy, simply because I did not care for the smell and texture of the soy, and was a little worried about the whole soy proteins mimicking estrogen thing. But all turned out well and he’s a perfectly healthy 2-year-old.

    A Believer!

I am not a huge organic fanatic. But I have tried many formula’s for my daughter. After being unable to breastfeed due her lactose sensitivity, I was forced to switch to formula. We went directly to soy, that was short lived as I know soy isn’t good for babies and she didn’t have good results. It bound her up really bad, and the gas was terrible too. We then went to Similac Sensitive. She started spitting up a lot…more than the normal spit up a baby should have. So I started to mix the Sensitive with Similac for Spit-up. It helped some but mostly it turned the spit up in to curdled spit up. After reading a post on facebook about GMO’s in formula and hexane I did some research and I decided switching to organic was a must. I researched formula and found Baby’s Only. I had reservations because the can is labeled toddler formula. Please don’t let this sway you. It meets all the needs of an infant and then some. Nature’s One is a breastfeeding promoter which is why this is labeled toddler formula. It doesn’t have GMO’s and this is the only milk based lactose free organic formula on the market. It does contain soy, but all formula contains soy and this formula just contains soybean oil and lecithin (sp?). It doesn’t contain DHA and ARA but it does contain other fatty acids that the body turns into DHA and ARA. Nature’s One also makes an organic GMO free supplement if you want to add it to formula. It also doesn’t contain probiotics (unless I missed that somewhere). I was already giving my daughter additional probiotics for digestion and immunity support so this didn’t sway me either.Awhile back an arsenic scandal erupted about brown rice syrup. Brown rice does naturally contain arsenic. Nature’s One has now filtered the syrup to contain undetectable amounts of arsenic. No worries there. How is my daughter doing on the formula? She is 3 months old. My daughter has been on this formula for a week. The spit up has been reduced to a normal amount (less than a teaspoon per feeding) an infant should have while on a liquid diet. She was always a happy baby but now is even happier. Her gas has reduced significantly. She usually sleeps through the night but would wake before with gas pains that has also subsided. She enjoys the taste and burps come more easily for her now, and that was difficult before. She was also experiencing some congestion for about 4 weeks which I believe could be related to a corn allergy or any toxin that was in Similac and that has also cleared up.This formula is darker in appearance and thicker than Similac. It smells much better and taste far better too (yes I tried it). Her spit up doesn’t have a strong odor, but it is darker than before but I haven’t had any issues with staining, we use bibs and those aren’t staining either. Her stools have been more formed than before but some constipation and formed stools are normal when switching formula.A can of this formula usually lasts about 3 1/2 days. She eats 6-4oz bottles a day. Just to give you an idea of how much a can yields in ounces. There you have it. I’m a believer. I am so happy that I finally found a formula I feel good about giving her and that makes her feel better too. I will update in a couple weeks.08/07/2013-Still very happy with this formula. My daughter is experiencing some firm stools though. I have incorporated some prune juice and it has helped.10/23/2013-Still very happy with the formula. We still have some firm stool issues but I will take that over her ingesting harmful toxins any day! She is 6 months old now and thriving beautifully! Her pediatrician even commented on how beautiful her skin is (she had eczema) and how she is growing well and not over weight.01/07/2015-We used this formula until my daughter was 16 months old. I still swear by this formula and if I have another baby and can’t breastfeed, we will use it again.

I’ve tried all the rest (8 different ones) and then I found the best!!

I started out with the intention of breastfeeding my baby but after a week I had to start supplementing with formula because my supply was too low (cue the overzealous lot who think I just didn’t try hard enough…I get it but you don’t know my circumstances so you don’t get to judge me and that’s not what this review is about). I slowly transitioned to all formula by week 6 and as more and more of my baby’s diet consisted of formula he became increasing fussy. He had green sticky blob poops that smelled horrendous and slightly acidic. He had gas and would arch his back in pain. His spit up was only slightly above average amounts except for the few times he projectile vomited it all up. We were giving him gas drops and gripe water at every single feeding and he still couldn’t get comfortable.Through out this time we tried 8 different formulas. Some were marginally better that others or seemed to fix one problem but exacerbate the others. As an fyi this is a complete list of formulas we tried: Gerber gentle, gerber soothe, enfamil infant, enfamil gentlease, Similac sensitive, Similac total comfort, Similac soy, and Similac alimentum. We even tried mixing them to see if that would help.At 2 months and 8 different formulas nothing worked and my poor baby was miserable and started only drinking 2oz. at a time and only because he was starving. I started doing research and I decided my next formulas to try were Baby’s Only lactorelief and Kabrita goat’s milk formula. I went to Whole Foods and was pleased to find both (I wanted something immediate because my baby was suffering but Amazon is cheaper). I started the Baby’s Only a week ago now and haven’t looked back (the unopened Kabrita remains on standby until week 3 and if everything is still great it will go back to Whole Foods). The first thing I noticed is that this formula smells good! No icky chemically smell. My baby is now eager to eat. The gas drops and gripe water are an extreme rarity. He is content and comfortable. The only drawback to this formula are so minor they do not require dropping a star. The formula does oxidize faster than other commercial formulas which means it turns brown and stains easier. Also my baby’s poop hardly smells (this could be considered an advantage) so sometimes he goes way too long in a diaper I didn’t realize was poopy so he gets diaper rash.It was never my intention to get expensive organic formula for my baby because we are a one income family on a tight budget. However this is cheaper than the small cans of Similac they sell at the big box stores and significantly cheaper than Similac Alimentum. It still breaks the bank but it’s worth it for my baby. There are 2 things I’d like to address in my review that I haven’t touched on yet. First is organic brown rice syrup is the first ingredient. In my research I found out that this is cause for concern because arsenic is naturally occurring in brown rice syrup. However a few years back Baby’s Only responded to this concern and now filters it so that there are no detectable amounts of arsenic. You can read more about this on their website. This next thing is that this formula is marketed as toddler formula which is age 12-24 months. From my research it is my understanding that this is for 2 reasons, first is that to be marketed as infant formula it has to be tested and approved by the FDA, a lengthy and expensive process. The next reason and the reason Baby’s Only states on it’s website is because they support breastmilk as the only source of nutrition during the first year. They also acknowledge that this formula meets or exceeds all of the FDA requirement for baby formula.I’m so glad I finally found the right formula for my baby. It might not be right for your baby but if you’ve tried them all and nothing works try this one!!! It’s only been a week so far but I’ll keep Amazon updated 😄Update: This one is a keeper. Baby is so much happier. He’s putting on weight and is healthy. I’m so glad that feeding time is no longer stressful.

Love this formula, only wish we could get it regularly shipped to Hawaii

My daughter has a milk intolerance issue and we wanted to ease her into milk slowly with this formula. She loved it right away, had no problems transitioning to this from her usual Neocate and Elecare (sometimes Nutramigen when we were out). And it helped with her transition to more dairy foods as well. It’s a little clumpy when mixing but you just need to give it a bit to dissolve and then it’s good to go. It did not make her poop runny and did not cause any problems, in fact her bowel movements were more regular and she was not as constipated which was an issue (surprisingly) with the other formulas. And of course the best thing about this product is that it is organic, gluten free and non-GMO which is wonderful. The only downside is that we were hoping to use the subscribe/save option for this but that did not work out so well…we received one shipment with that option and then it halted on its own either because of product availability or shipping issues. So unfortunately we decided to stop it altogether. Only wish they carried this in our local grocery stores or babies r us.

    Very great alternative for Neocate

I used as a substitute for Neocate toddler(not covered under EBT and $60!) as my daughter is allergic to milk and soy and had horrible acid reflux. She was on toddler formula until she was 22 months old. This formula helped me when I ran out of the Neocate and couldn’t afford to buy more, and this was more than half the price of her regular. It didn’t mess with her belly at all but I also did half and half with the other formula when I knew I was running low to not “shock” her tummy.

    Safest Choice For Our Baby

I was verrry nervous to try formula at 7 months with my EBF baby. My baby has really bad reflux and his milk intake was not consistent enough to keep my supply stable. So, I pumped a lot. I also went back to work around the 4 month mark and did not mind the pumping in the beginning. I was beginning to feel really unhappy and stuck to the pump. I felt like I was living by the clock and sick of planning my life around trying to feed and then pump to make sure my supply did not slow down. After weeks of debate & guilt of even thinking about it, I decided it’s time to take care of myself and start weaning my son from BFing. I have a nice milk stash from pumping to last him a couple of months, but I will have to supplement with some formula. So, I am going to do give him 2 feedings of formula a day until his milk intake begins to decrease as he starts to eat more solids.I was stressed about finding the safest, cleanest formula possible and I was beginning to consider if I should continue pumping when I saw how horrible all these known brand name formulas are!! How is it even legal for most of these to be even on the market??? I started to research formula and Baby’s Only was one of the very few that intrigued me as an option (HIPP was another one, but it seemed like a hassle to find to purchase). It was literally the only formula that gave me a sigh of relief at the thought of comfortably putting in my baby’s body. I read and read about how it was one of the cleanest and closest to the taste of BM. I even read into the brown sugar and arsenic levels. Do your research, people! The company has filtered it out.I wanted to test this out before I made a final decision to stop pumping so I went and purchased it from Whole Foods. To my surprise, my baby did not express any difference to it from BM. I started to test one bottle of formula a day and very quickly realized he would do just fine on it. God, it even smells delicious and helps me feel less guilty for supplementing with it. Since starting solids, my son gets constipated easily. I was also very nervous to throw formula in the mix in the chance that it would make it worse. I was so relieved to see this did not constipate him. Maybe the frozen breast milk is helping with breaking down the formula better (read this online). Whatever it is, this is working for us and I am relieved to have found this. Thank you for making this BFing/pumping mama’s decision to stop a little easier!!I have now switched to ordering from Amazon due to convenience, but it’s worth it to compare prices before purchasing each time. The formula is packaged smaller than other formulas, which makes it a bit expensive. However, I’m willing to pay as much as I need to in order to give my baby the best possible, but I will shop around for it.

    Best organic formula

LOVE this formula-granted my daughter wasn’t on many different ones before this. We had a difficult time breastfeeding-she is my first and I didn’t get much help with the latch. By the time she was 3 weeks old, I was in pain and desperate and she was losing weight. We saw a lactation consultant a few times but nothing changed and my supply started to plummet. Finally, it was 2 months later and we couldn’t nurse anymore. We first tried Earth’s Best and baby broke out in an awful rash (still hard to look at this baby pictures). The pediatrician recommended Nutrimagen which was just awful. The smell was horrendous and baby hated the flavor. BUT her rash went away. I did some research and figured it might have to do with the dairy that was in the Earth’s Best formula so we went out on a limb and ordered a few cans of Lactorelief (there weren’t any local stores that carried this formula in our area at the time). Baby took to it so well. Her skin cleared up, she was less gassy, she slept better, and on and on. Now, 10 months later, we are beginning the process of weaning off this formula. My daughter is beautiful, healthy, and smart. This is probably the best organic formula out there and finding this definitely took some of the guilt of not breastfeeding away. My sister in law gives it to her newborn and he is doing just fine as well. My only issue is that the prices on Amazon are much higher than in store. Whole Foods sells this formula for $14.99 in store. I’ve watched the prices fluctuate a lot. DO NOT order on Amazon (unless you have to) if the price is above $14.99. It shouldn’t be so high for a product that people NEED.

    Stock has become unreliable

My little one is allergic to all the top allergens except shellfish. This is the only formula without dairy, soy, almond or corn. There isn’t another formula that we can substitute with. I love this formula but hate the stress that comes with inconsistent inventory and subscription fulfillment. I will have to keep an extra month on hand so we don’t run out when subscription delivery gaps occur. I would have given 5 stars if the subscription were reliable.
